How do you buy things online without a credit card?
Posted on January 19th, 2009 11 commentsJ asked:
Well, I want to buy a T-shirt online, and only available online but the thing is, I’m 16 and I live with my grandmother but she doesn’t have a credit card. It got hacked and she just ended it altogether and never got one again. I really need this because it’s a requirement for a contest I’m entering so I was wondering if there’s anyway I can purchase it online with a prepaid credit card (if such a thing exists) and if it does, where are they sold? And also does it work with paypal?

If you have a bank account you can pay that way through paypal by setting up an account. You can go to your bank/or any bank for that matter and get a pre-paid debit card as well. Your other option would be getting a money order from the grocery store or somewhere along those lines.

Most online sellers will accept PayPal, although it’s not a guarantee. If they do, set up an account; it’s very easy and safe.
If they don’t, you can get prepaid debit cards. I know that Bartell Drugs sells them. They are Visa cards, and you can buy one for set amounts. Then, use the 16-digit code on the card to order online.
Good luck!

You can buy a prepaid gift card at National City that works as a Visa Credit/Debit card. The only catch is you have to purchase it for $25 or more and some websites don’t accept it.
Check with the website’s terms of payment before going this route.
Otherwise, check to see if you can supply a money order after you receive an order confirmation. -

The prepaid credit cards are sold at most grocery stores and Walmarts. They come in incriments of $25, $50, and $100. I use them all the time so I won’t have my credit card number floating around cyberspace.

You can probably buy a prepaid credit card at a large grocery store in your area – most of them do a big business in gift cards, including prepaid credit cards. And yes, you can use those online, and it should work with paypal.

You can get a prepaid visa or master card from most banks. They charge a small fee for putting the money on the card but then it works just like a credit / debit card. You may need an account with the bank but if you have your grandmother get you the card (the bank can assure her of it’s security and that there is no way for it to be hacked or stolen or to affect her bank account)
Also, many websites are now offering the option to purchase by means of electronic check but that’s as security prone as using a credit card.
You’re not going to enter the T-shirt Hell contest are you?

See if you bank will allow you to get a debit card, in conjunction with your bank account. You can use the debit card. This also help build up credit history for you.
