Isn’t it unsafe to use your credit card online to shop because the shop can use it again and again?
Posted on January 30th, 2009 10 commentshi asked:
When we type in our credit card numbers to buy something from an online shop, can the online shop staff see our credit card numbers and 3 digit code and use it again and again to take our money? Also, I just bought something from an online shop, and somehow the shipping fees were not deducted and now they ask me to FAX or CALL in with my credit card number. Isn’t that unsafe? What can I do?

If it’s a reputable store, like a major one, then it’s usually safe.
However, I ordered something from a fairly popular store and someone hacked into the information and charged over $700 worth of clothing. We got it fixed and all, but it’s a small risk you’re going to have to take ordering online.

Myself, I would not evr buy anything on line as the information is too easy to hack and get.

Isn’t that true of almost EVERY place you use your card?
Do you give your card to the waiter? When they take it away for processing, they could swipe the data. A store clerk could do the same thing.

Most eStore interfaces only allow the customer service reps to see the last four numbers of the credit card umber.
I would not fax or call in your credit card information; that does not seem like an appropriate request.

Just watch your credit card bills. You will recognize if its charged when you havn’t used it. Most sites such as eBay and amazon, etc… are safe and secure. Similar to online banking. Welcome to the world of technology. Just watch for unusual activity on your card, and go to the bank and cancel your account if such happens.

whats the online shops webpage ? (www.???.com ) DO NOT call/FAX them the info that is a scam for sure.. the online purchase you did was enough.. if it is stolen call the number on your card and report it stolen online. this happened to me recently with my credit card. you will get your money back after they review your case.

I work for a website and most often times for the clients safety we are only presented with the last four digits of the CC the rest of the numbers are simply stars. There is always a chance that something like that could happen anywhere you may go, but understand that companies do not want a huge lawsuit or anything like that, so if for some reason something like that did occur they would do everything in their power to cooperate with the authorities and if it was an employee the person would be fired most likely. If you are worried about automatic renewals, make sure to pay attention when you are making a purchase that you read over it closely. Also contact the company as soon as you can just to make sure that there is no auto renew feature with that site and if there is to turn it off. most often times with 1 time purchases there will not be any auto renew feature.

go to walmart or those check cashing stores and get a prepaid credit card, that way you can just put the money on it you need and if they try and funny business they will get declined and youll get alerted. also they wont have access to your bank accounts

Ok. what you do is open a new credit account especially for buying online, and get them to lower your credit limit to say… £100 (i have one like this). that way. even if you do get hacked which is very unlikely, you cant lose very much. I use my low-limit card in restaurants (in case they swipe it). Simple!
In answer to your question about charging multiple times. Most major stores/restaurants COULD charge you twice or clean out the account, but they know that theyd get arrested/their business discredited so its not worthit for them.

These days even Bank accounts get charged..so every statement has to be watched if its credit card or your checking account…rather watch it. If there is a problem report it. Thats resolves the problem.
