  • Online Credit Card Processing Merchant Account

    Steve Kujala asked:

Credit card processing is one of the most important services for many types of businesses. A virtual business often has no other payment method than credit cards to receive the money it is due. Credit card processing can be done online for a price. Credit card merchant accounts are available for many different types of products. Some merchant accounts adjust the rate that you are charged based upon what it is that you are selling. For example, if a merchant is selling prescription medication legally, it may have a higher processing rate due to the industry being a higher risk to the processor. More people are likely to chargeback or not pay their bills and that will affect the people who are using the credit card merchant processor. The higher the risk the industry that the business owner is in, the higher the fees they will pay for their merchant account processing.

Merchant accounts have a long list of fees. The first fee that is usually charged is a flat monthly fee to use the service that the merchant account processor provides. This fee is anywhere from $10 to $20 but can be more if the merchant receives a physical machine as well as access to a virtual terminal. This fee is charged each and every month until the contract with the merchant account processor is terminated. It does not matter how much volume you push through the merchant account, the fee will be charged regardless. The next type of fee that is charged is a set fee for every transaction attempt that is made. This is usually between fifteen to thirty cents per transaction depending upon the merchant processor. Any payment that is collected will have this fee automatically deducted from it.

The main fee where credit card processing accounts can have a wide difference is the flexible fee on the charge. This fee can be anywhere from 1.7% to 3.5% or even higher for certain industries. It is vital that merchants look around for the lowest fee that they qualify for. Any merchant that has a very high fee is missing out on dollars in their pocket due to the fact that so many merchant processors will offer them a lower fee. Do not make the mistake of passing up a great deal on a merchant account. The best deals on your merchant account will ensure that you are able to invest more into your business down the road and be much more successful.

Credit card processing accounts and online credit card processing are very important for many businesses. Without the ability to process credit online, most businesses are not going to be able to succeed. That is why even high risk credit card processing is allowed. Businesses need to find the best rate that they qualify for and use it to their advantage. Do not pass up the special opportunity that makes credit card processing a vital portion of your business.

  • Debit Card Advantages Over Credit Cards

    Jack M Patterson asked:

Prepaid debit cards have advantages over credit cards, as well as some limitations. Both kinds of “plastic” let you make purchases safely and conveniently without having to carry cash. Both are widely accepted by stores, restaurants, and other bricks-and-mortar and online merchants. The main difference between the two is that spending using a credit card is a form borrowing while with a debit card you are spending your own cash that you have already deposited to your card’s account. Thus you have “prepaid” for your purchase.

What Debit Cards Can Do that Credit Cards Can’t

Debit cards let you deposit your money into an account and spend it as you see fit. In contrast, you can’t deposit money on a credit card; you can only use credit that you then have to pay back. Even a “secured credit card”-for instance where you have to put $500 down as collateral to cover your charges-does not allow you to add your own money and withdraw it interest free. Rather, your deposit is only securing your line of credit and is not accessible to you until you close the credit card. Your line of credit could be increased beyond your initial collateral deposit as you develop a good payment history.

You have many ways to add money to a prepaid card, such as using a money transfer agent or purchasing a Greendot MoneyPak at a broad swath of participating retailers nationwide. You can even set up a direct deposit to your debit card for all or part of your payroll or benefits payments.

Debit cards can curb your impulse spending. The reason for this is simple psychology. It’s your money, and you can only make purchases on the card if you have enough funds in your card account to cover your purchases. Unlike writing a check which might bounce, you can’t get overdrawn. And unlike paying with a credit card that only limits your spending, based on the spending limit of the card, you can’t borrow money that you don’t have. You don’t have to worry about going further into debt and having to make monthly installment payments to pay back the charges. Odds are you will think twice about every purchase and will be more mindful of your budget.

Some debit cards let you check your purchase history and balance online, by calling a customer service number, by using an ATM machine, or even using text messaging on your mobile phone. In today’s economy, more and more people are finding it harder to get a credit card. But it is easy to get a prepaid debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo on it. All you have to do is pass an identity check which helps prevent fraud. An identity check basically establishes your name, birth date, and address matches your official identity usually matched against your social security number. With a debit card, you’ll have the flexibility of a credit card yet peace of mind that you will not be going into debt.

What Debit Cards Can Do that Checks Can’t

If a retailer does not accept personal checks, it likely will accept a debit card as a form of payment for products or services. Just ask or look for a sign that reads that MasterCard or Visa cards are accepted. While debit card purchases technically run on a different network than credit cards, these networks are still run by MasterCard or Visa. If you write a check and don’t have enough funds in your bank account to cover the amount of the check, you can get overdrawn. This can mean hefty overdraft fees for every bounced check, sometimes as much as $30 per check. A check card (a debit card that is tied to your checking account) can still put you at overdraft risk depending on the bank. Most reloadable prepaid cards, however, will not allow you to become overdrawn and thus can’t hit you with an overdraft fee.

Writing checks, or even using a check card, does not help you build credit. That is also the case with prepaid cards, unless they are tied to credit building program like the iAdvance(R) Line of Credit from MetaBank. This program lets you take out small loans on your card, for example $20, and every time you pay them back that fact gets reported to one or more of the major credit bureaus.

    Debit Card Limitations

Credit card consumers generally speaking have more leverage against merchants than debit card consumers in disputes over charges, given current Federal regulations. MasterCard offers a zero liability coverage for unauthorized use of a Prepaid MasterCard, which do not apply for PIN transactions (which is why it is important to protect your PIN number).

Perhaps one of the biggest limitations is the consequences of not reporting a lost or stolen card to the bank issuing your card within 48 hours. The level of protection differs from state to state. If the lost card is never found, or the cardholder reports the theft within 48 hours, the FDIC-backed funds will remain safe, and can be moved to a new account when the original account is closed. But a cardholder who fails to report the lost or stolen card in a timely fashion could wave goodbye to his or her money that was once on the card but spent by the thief. The amount of liability will depend upon the policies of the bank issuing the card as well as the state laws governing any such limits.

  • A Popular Online Credit Card Choice is Paypal

    Lawrence Fine asked:

Since I opened my PayPal account, I have noticed that it is much easier to make online purchases. Not only are there more sellers who will sell to me (many small sellers do not take credit card transactions) but the sales also seem to be processed faster.

When I first started a PayPal account, I was pretty suspicious. You see, I have known people who have been scammed over the Internet, so I don’t really trust new forms of electronic transaction very much. I didn’t really know if a PayPal bank account would be secure, and I was worried about trusting my financial information to a business that I didn’t know that much about. Nevertheless, I was working as a freelance writer, and having PayPal accounts made things much easier. There were some clients, in fact, who wouldn’t pay except through PayPal.

Several months later, I have seen how much of a difference having a PayPal account makes. Before the invention of PayPal, the credit card was the ultimate form of convenience. If you had a credit card account, you could buy basically anything from anywhere. Nowadays, PayPal accounts have become the standard – particularly for online buying and selling. There are many merchants who only work through PayPal.

There’s a good reason for this. There are quite a few advantages that a PayPal account has over a normal transaction. With PayPal buying and selling, neither party ever gets the other party’s financial information. You don’t have to give out your credit card number, or your PayPal password. Basically, PayPal handles the transaction for you. This is even more secure than a credit card account.

Although it has been helpful for my online business, it has helped me with other things as well. I used to be afraid to buy something over eBay using a credit card. After all, I didn’t know enough about the seller. For all I knew, he could have been scamming me. The few transactions that I did make were pretty slow. I don’t know why, but for some reason it always seemed to take longer than it should to do credit card transactions online.

I still need to use a credit card for some purchases – particularly from major online stores – but it is less important than my PayPal business account for buying things online. I figure that, in a few more years, it might become the main way that people do business over the Net.

Paypal is great for shopping carts for businesses of all sizes, too. Simply upgrade your account to a business account at no extra charge, then place Paypal Buy Now buttons on your websites. Or set up an entire shipping cart system with a third party script or source like 1Shoppingcart and accept membership subscription payments and allow shoppers to buy a variety of items and check out with your Paypal account.

Paypal’s Virtual Terminal allows an affordable manner of keying in credit card transactions, to, avoiding heavy fee-laden bank operated and third party merchant accounts. Excellent customer service also supersedes outsourced operators who lack expertise in your account solutions, too, another big bonus with Paypal.

There is a one common way to do online transaction that is credit card payment, still one thing comes to understand that how credit card processing works most of us are quite mystified.

Whenever a trade store cashier swipe your credit card throughout credit card fatal, the subsequent procedure takes place: credit card and payment details are sent by electronic means to merchant’s acquiring bank, which contacts credit card issuing bank; in case transaction is accepted, money are deposited on the merchants account. A merchant require having a merchant account and a compensation gateway account in order to set up credit cad handing out in his store.

When you do an online credit card transaction there are lots of things that you perform. The virtual store that you would like to buy from will inquire for your name and credit card number. The online credit card transaction arrangement will confirm whether or not the credit card is owned by the name specific. This step is in fact not obligatory since not everyone uses their own credit card, and the name is most of the times written on the credit card well.

Individual sort of business I have individually set up with QSR is a drive- from side to side ice cream store.  My mercantile client treasured the enlarged speed of the transactions.  He did not require bending out of the serve window and handing the customer a receipt and pen to sign.  He simply handed a receipt to the customer all along through their buy, that customer then throng away and my merchant client was on to handling his subsequently customer!

The customer does still obtain a receipt. The credit card company do motionless need that every consumer using their credit card does collect a receiving for their credit card transaction.
