dry hands asked:

When a Visa Gift Card runs out of money, it’s just dead, right? There’s no way it’ll keep charging you?

And how can it be used for online purchases? Can it be used just like any other credit card online?
Oh and almost forgot, is it refillable?

How to prevent online credit card theft

February 16, 2010 By: admin Category: Personal Finance

elementaryfinance asked:

With increasing frequency and intensity it’s happening and your credit is at risk. The attacks are getting more and more sophisticated and the thieves are becoming more widespread. They are working hard to stay a step ahead of law enforcement and they are largely successful. Your money, your credit, and your identity are at risk of being compromised by online credit card theft.

Did you know that more than 15 million people per year are victims of identity theft? Did you know that it takes an average of 600 hours of work for you to recover from identity theft? Did you know that online credit card theft costs our nation 500 million per year?

It’s clear that your identity and credit are at risk and the only way to protect it is to take actions on your own part. Here are five ways that will help you not fall victim to online credit card theft:

Only buy from companies with an actual mailing address- Websites come and go all the time and because of that, it is very easy for a scam to be executed and your money stolen and the website shut down very quickly. Businesses that sell merchandise have addresses. You should also verify this address.

Enter your credit card number in to secure websites only- Secure websites always start with HTTPS rather than HTTP. Your internet browser will also have a picture of a lock or some other graphic that will show you that you are in a secure environment.

Say no to work at home schemes- A lot of people are looking for work at home, get rich quick schemes and they are willing to give their credit card number to anybody promising quick riches. Online credit card theft often happens on the websites of thieves playing to the emotions of the average person.

Don’t give your credit card information as a response to an e-mail. No company will ask you to provide your credit card number through an e-mail. If a company e-mails you pointing you to a website to pay for something and it could be legitimate, don’t click on the link. Instead, go to the website and log in to your account.

Get an online identity theft prevention service. Online credit card theft can be prevented by paying a small monthly fee for identity monitoring. A company that you know and trust like Equifax is the perfect place to get this service.

The thieves are going to keep attacking and you may be next. At the very least, an attack would be less than convenient. At worst, it may wipe out your child’s college savings that you have contributed to for years or your retirement money. It’s easy to prevent by enrolling in a protection service like Equifax.

How come you have to pay at least $1 for online credit card payments? And why only 1 payment every 24 hours?

June 27, 2009 By: admin Category: Credit

notquite404 asked:

Why is it that credit card companies will not accept a payment of less than $1 and you can’t make more than one payment every 24 hours? Is someone out there trying to pay their credit card bill a nickel at a time? And what would happen if they did? Inquiring minds wanna know.
By online credit card payments, I meant paying, say, Citibank or Amex money towards your cc bill/balance. I could have been clearer…I didn’t mean for online purchases.

Jake asked:

I go to my bank of america website, but there are two options they have this confusing kinda Bill pay option where you can enter all the information and they’ll mail it to them.. strange i thought…, or a transfer fund option, where i can move money between accounts. Still, i’d feel more comfortable knowing someone out there is paying there credit card like this. Anybody doing this? or know how?

WHy is it taking 30 days to get a response from an online credit card application?

March 14, 2009 By: admin Category: Credit

Joe asked:

I applied online yesteray for my first credit card and they said I would get a response within 30 days. Why does it take so long? Is it because I have no credit and it was a student credit card? Also, I said I had both savings and a checking account but right now I only have a savings but will be getting a checking account on Saturday. Is it ok that I said I had both a checkings and a saving? Will it make them reject my application? Are they eager to give a credit card to someone like me, a young person likely to give them money for interest? I am just anxious about the whole thing. I am going to be responsible with it because I am careful with all my money.
also I didn’t know what they meant by residence when they asked rent or own? do they seriously expect me to pay for rent at this age? So I selected “Other” and put zero paid month;y for my residence because that is what I pay, I mean I help my mom out sometimes but thats it.
lol iceman, I said I made 6K a year because that is what I made in 2005
well it was labled a student credit card….being wary should be expected of them if they think this.
yeah it was CHASE
what is the purpose of advertising student credit cards then?? they are designed for people like me who have no creidt. thanks for not answering my question.

Getting Your Online Credit Card Application Approved Instantly

March 12, 2009 By: admin Category: Non Fiction

Bob Bastian asked:

If you have surfed around on the Internet, you have no doubt ran across many different credit card companies, offering you cards at what they claim are the best in terms of interest rates and fees. Credit card companies operate both offline and online, and you can even apply for your card directly through their website. Even though many people understand how this process works, there are some who do not.

There are a lot of credit card companies who can process your application online instantly, or within a few minutes. Keep in mind that it does not mean you can shop instantly, simply because you can not print out your new credit card and take it out to the store. You can still shop, although you will not be able to use your new credit card – you have to wait until it is mailed out to you.

Although your application will only take you a few minutes, you will still have to wait for your new credit card. It will be sent to you via mail, so you will need to a wait a few short days before it arrives. Online credit cards are a smart choice, as most will tell you instantly whether or not you have been approved. Even though you will have to wait on the card, it does not take near as long as applying the old fashioned way.

When you compare the old fashioned method of getting credit cards to the online method, you will see some major differences. The first difference is the time, as it can take a long time to return the credit card offer to the company and receive a response. Snail mail can take forever when you are waiting on a response, especially if there are problems with processing your application.

The traditional method of getting a credit card will not allow you to compare what other companies have to offer. If you choose to apply for your credit card online, you will have the option of looking at several different companies. This way, you can find the best deal for your money and know without a doubt that you found the best deal. There are literally hundreds of credit cards online, all you have to do is find one that interests you and apply for it.

Keep in mind that even though applying online is a great way to get credit cards, there are limitations on instant approval. As you may already know, online credit cards with instant approval are meant for those who already have good credit. Even though you may not have good or perfect credit, there are ways that you can get approved online. With the market being very competitive these days, there are some companies that will approve you regardless, just for the simple fact that it gives them business. A lot of online companies are looking to get more business, so they will let the line slide quite a bit, and approve almost anyone now days.

If you are looking for a credit card, all you have to do is look online. You will find many to choose from, giving you plenty of available options. Credit card companies are easy to find online, with there being more online than offline. Getting approved online for your credit card is easier than ever, as all you need to do is apply and wait for a response. With a little luck, you may end up getting approved. Once your application is approved, all you do is sit back and wait for your credit card to arrive – it is as easy as that.

Isn’t it unsafe to use your credit card online to shop because the shop can use it again and again?

January 30, 2009 By: admin Category: Personal Finance

hi asked:

When we type in our credit card numbers to buy something from an online shop, can the online shop staff see our credit card numbers and 3 digit code and use it again and again to take our money? Also, I just bought something from an online shop, and somehow the shipping fees were not deducted and now they ask me to FAX or CALL in with my credit card number. Isn’t that unsafe? What can I do?
